On days when J works I have the afternoon to myself.
Which usually means I lay around the house making sure we get our $8 worth of Netflix.
Possibly wash a few dishes.  Possibly not.  And then get ready for bed.
Fairly uneventful.
Mind numbing even.
But this past Saturday I decided to be a little more adventurous.
I had a few errands that I wanted to run.
You know – trip to Target and the school supply store then snack run at Chipotle for chips & guac.
The usual.
And the things usually done with J.
Because it’s fun when it’s the two of us.
While driving alone across town with the windows rolled down and Pandora playing I realized how much I enjoyed being alone.
And how refreshed and productive I was afterwards.
Turning off the TV also might have helped..
I am well aware of my introvert tendencies but since June 22 I rarely run errands alone.
I rarely even drive unless it’s to work and back.
Now, I love my husband.
The guy that’s truly my best friend.
And I love doing the everyday things like Walmart runs, walks in the park, and getting coffee with that boy.
But I do think I’m going to start spending some time doing those things alone every now and then.
Just me.
And maybe a good book.

  1. Amen, 100%! I never get mad at Drew for going to play basketball or going to dinner with some buddies, because that means I get alone time! Do you feel more productive when you're alone vs. when Josh is home? Because I'm way more productive when Drew isn't home. Why is that? It's strange. And turning off the TV – biggest challenge of our generation! At least for me.

  2. As a fellow introvert you know how much I love this post. Even though I'm not in a relationship right now, I do value and understand the importance of a few alone moments every now and then–especially after work! 🙂

  3. Chipotle and blog planning? This sounds amazing. I usually don't like to be alone because I am not used to it either, but when you embrace it, it can be fun and productive. 🙂 Love your blog! I'm a teacher as well!

  4. It's nice, isn't it? 🙂 Sometimes it's refreshing to do a few things alone. I think it's really healthy for couples, too! Gotta have your own time to explore and think and whatnot 🙂 Good for you!
