I’m a fan of coffee and cozy t-shirts so hey it was bound to happen at least once…

So there’s this thing called Lightbearers

which I have completely fallen in love with this past year.  Not just because they set college students up with a place to live – but because they truly, purely love Jesus, treasure His Word, desire to spread the Gospel to all people groups, and they challenge the next generation to do the same.

My wonderful roommate {and to this day an amazing friend…she’s getting married in January!} my freshman year at MSU was being “discipled” by this girl named Becca – who at that time lived in the same house that I live in now.  They’d meet once a week and talk about the Bible and life.  Secretly I was always jealous that she got a home cooked meal once a week… But Becca it turns out was a part of Lightbearers — this meant living in Biblical community with other girls, committing to be mentored, an overseas trip to the 10/40 window, and a Bible study with all the Lightbearers students at MSU once a week {which is now called Institute – a class on Tuesday nights on theology and Bible overview}.  Becca told Kels, who told me, and we said, “I want to be a part of that.”  Before Christmas break 2010 the papers were signed and everything was in place.

The year began with challenges that only proved to draw me closer to the Lord.  Our house was made up of four girls – me, Kelsey, Becca, and Rachel M {who later became known as “big rach”}.  During the first week of school my roommate {the only girl I knew in the house} had to make the tough decision to not do Lightbearers.  She played a huge role in a college ministry and a sorority and felt like she couldn’t give everything her all.  The Lord was so faithful in teaching me through this time.  I learned from Kelsey’s wise decision making, was overwhelmingly and wonderfully loved by my other two roommates, that the Lord’s plan is so much greater than man’s, and also that my identity cannot be found in other people but in Christ alone {another lesson that is conitnually forgotten and relearned}.  And because we had the empty space at our house – Emily moved in halfway through the semester.  Which was an unexpected and wonderful blessing!  I cannot even come close to expressing how blessed I have been through Lightbearers and these girls – but ultimately through the Lord.  What an amazing year it was!

the roommates – becca, big rach, emily

we had the opportunity to travel to southern asia together.
an experience that has absolutely changed my life.

I was thinking about all of this because on Wednesdays, Becca comes to the same house Kelsey came to our freshman year, sits in the very same room, and disciples me.  I could write a lot on Becca right here…but that would make a long post even longer so I’ll save it for another day! 🙂

I am so thankful for Lightbearers and these semesters of rich growth and being poured in to.

You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
(2 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV)

And this year has just begun!
